what year was released C# language ?

I know that the C# language was released in 2001 but look at the header of the class "System.Web.UI.Page" code source:

// Uncomment out this line to display rare field statistics at the end of the page
//#define DISPLAYRAREFIELDSTATISTICS

/*

*/

namespace System.Web.UI {

then 2001 or 1998??

  1. A typo or a very early file that survived. Wikipedia dates the project back to 1999.

  2. Really i don't know,if it's a code generator mistake! however the class "System.Web.UI.Page" has not changed since .Net 1.1

  3. Well, you should differentiate release date and the initiative. Actually, the initiative dates back to 98, it was then called Project 7. It was partly handled by the Monash University.

    At this period of time, the cited class must have been created, hence the datestamp you will see upon page generation.
